What are some of the most common causes of termite attack to homes?

  1. The closer that the house is to the ground the higher the risk of termite attack.
  2. The higher the exterior soil levels are the greater the termite risk.  Therefore if the exterior soil, pavers, paths or gardens are above the slab level the termite risk is exceptionally high.
  3. Contrary to popular belief, concrete slab constructions are far more susceptible to termite attack than suspended timber flooring homes built of the ground.
  4. A steep slopping block adds greatly to the risk of termites as soil movement can provide termites with easier access into the building.
  5. The more alternations/extensions a house has the greater the risk of termites due to joints between concrete slabs, engaged piers, foundations walls abutting together etc.
  6. The more moisture there is in or around the house the greater the risk of termites.  Improving subfloor ventilation can play a major part in reducing the risk of termite attack. (top)

What can I do to reduce the risk of termites attacking my house?

  1. Firstly an inspection to the property every six (6) months will increase the chance of detecting termite activity before they cause any major damage.  This inspection will also ascertain whether or not there are conditions conducive to termite attack.
  2. Remove all untreated timber from around the property including railway sleepers.
  3. Rectify all drainage and plumbing leaks and areas of water build-up.
  4. If your hot water system overflow pipe drips against the exterior wall, place a hose on the end to drain it away from the house or place a bucket under it to catch the drips.  This is a major termite entry point.
  5. If the house is on a concrete slab ensure the slab edge is visible all the way around the house.  Any areas that are not are high risk areas.
  6. If the house is on bearers and joists (suspended timber flooring), ensure the subfloor area is well ventilated and clear of any scrap timber and formwork.
  7. All external levels should be well below the damp course level.
  8. All external wooden structures should be built on steel stirrups, NO plants or vines should be allowed to grow up the timbers as it allows for a bridge for termites.
  9. Avoid having timber fences, gates, garden sleepers, etc. contacting the house as this allows direct access for termites to your home.
  10. When termites are located in a house built on a concrete slab the majority of the time the entry pint is found to be via the outer edge of the slab, not through the slab as often believed.
  11. Nothing should ever be placed against the outer walls of a house as it may hold moisture and may provide termites with an unseen entry point.
  12. All gardens should have a gap between the back of the garden and the house a line of pavers is an effective way of dividing the two and keeping moisture away from the slab or foundations.
  13. Watering systems should be directed away from the house and water usage kept to a minimum. (top)

What do I do if I find termites?
If you locate termites in or around your house it is very important to do the following:-

  1. Stop whatever you were doing that caused you to find the termites.
  2. If any termites have fallen out of the effected area collect a few and place in a jar with spirits or water as soon as possible.  If it is possible cover the area where the termites are active or if in a door or window frame try to place a piece of paper over the area and seal all edges of the paper with tape.  This will reduce the risk of termites leaving the area and moving to another area of the house.
  3. Do not spray them, this will cause them to stop working in this area and will shift them to a different area of the house and may make treatment procedures more difficult.
  4. Call ASSASSIN PEST CONTROL immediately to determine the extent of the problem and to offer you an obligation free quote. (top)

What is Termidor?
Termidor is Australia’s #1 termite defence.  No other termite defence system of any type has ever achieved such a high level of efficacy. (top)

What types of termites does Termidor control?
Termidor controls Subterranean Termites, Eastern Subterranean Termites, Nasutitermes Subterranean Termites and the extremely destructive Coptotermes Subterranean Termites.  Through the years, other products have promised homeowners protection from termites. (top)

How can homeowners be sure that Termidor works?
Termidor is made from revolutionary new non-repellent or “undetectable” chemical technology.  In numerous trials across Australia and around the world, Termidor has consistently proven itself to be the most effective and fastest at completely eliminating termite populations.  A level of efficacy that no other termite control system of any type has ever achieved.  And, it is proving to be equally effective in keeping termites from coming back.  Ongoing field trials by the CSRIO show no signs of reinfestation at all study sites more than ten years after treatment with Termidor, results no other termite defence product can match. (top)

Where can I buy Termidor?
Termidor cannot be directly purchased or applied by homeowners.  Only licensed pest control professionals are authorized to purchase and apply Termidor. (top)

How does a pest control professional apply Termidor to my home?
A Termite Professional will apply a liquid dilution of Termidor along the foundation walls of your home to create a continuous treatment zone.  The application method is called “ trenching and rodding,” and may sometimes require drilling holes into  the concrete foundation of your home for maximum protection.  ASSASSIN PEST CONTROL may also treat the interior of your home, depending on the extent of the termite infestation and damage. (top)

How fast will Termidor work?
Termidor has consistently shown to provide 100% control of subterranean termites up to six times faster than termite bait/monitoring systems. (top)

Can Termidor be used for both residential and commercial buildings?
Yes, Termite professionals can treat most any type of structure that is at risk for termite damage, including residential homes, churches, office buildings and schools. (top)

How long will it take to complete a Termidor application?
A residential Termidor application is typically completed by a trained Termite Professional less than a day. (top)

Will Termidor have or leave an odour?
No, Termidor is odour-free. (top)

What makes Termidor different from other termite control option, such as bait systems?
Termidor utilizes a unique action known as the “Transfer Effect” to effectively eliminate termite populations up to six times faster than bait systems.  An, unlike older liquids, Termidor does not repel termites, termites can’t smell, see or feel the insecticide, so they crawl freely through treated areas.  When a termite eats or even comes in contact with the insecticide, it unknowingly transfers Termidor back to the colony on its body.  Every termite it contacts will transfer Termidor to other termites.  It is the most effective and fastest at completely eliminating termite populations up to six times faster than bait/monitoring systems.  Baits can take from many months to several years to control a colony.  That’s because many bait systems work by recruitment, in which termites must first discover a bait station and then recruit sufficient colony members to it as well.  Only then is the termite control product added to the station.  Plus, there’s no guarantee termites heading for or already in your home will find the bait stations and all.  Termidor starts working immediately. (top)

What will a Termidor treatment cost?
The cost of a Termidor treatment varies and largely depends on your particular situation and the treatment plan you and your pest control company agree upon.  In the long run, a Termidor treatment plan generally will cost less than a termite bait system and will provide more effective, longer lasting control. (top)

Is Termidor environmentally responsible?
Termidor is one of the most thoroughly reviewed control products in history.  Termidor is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency and can only be applied by a pest control professional who has been trained in correct application methods.  Termidor is incredibly effective even at low application rates.

It bonds to the soil in which it is applied, so homeowners need not worry about soil movement.  In addition, Termidor’s active ingredient, fipronil, is used extensively on food crops around the world and as the leading product for flea and tick control on dogs and cats since 1995.  Our advice?  For termite protection, choose Termidor!
